Children are constantly communicating. When they are having difficulties or challenges, the first step is always to learn to listen more deeply to the child and then move forward from there. The right support for children and families can bolster resilience and allow them to thrive no matter what challenge they face. I use a strengths-based approach to use what already works well as a foundation for further growth and development.
I have my MA in Psychology and my PhD in Family Social Science, both from the University of Minnesota. I’ve worked with children and families for over 15 years in clinical, educational, and community settings. In addition to being able to provide diagnostic assessments for all children, I have specialized training providing assessments for children under 5. In therapy, I draw from behavioral, attachment, narrative, Adlerian, and solution-focused theoretical foundations to counseling, with additional training in trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). From those foundations, my approach utilizes behavioral strategies within a social-emotional learning framework in which relationships take center stage. A main goal for the therapy I offer is to enhance and deepen family relationships while increasing positive interactions, enjoyment, and well-being.
